To help you get the most out of your race weekend, here are a few tips to keep things running smoothly so you can stay focused on the fun and excitement.
At Richmond Raceway, fans are allowed to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the grandstands–an easy way to stay comfortable and cut down on costs. It’s ideal if you prefer your own snacks or want to avoid long lines at concessions.
Just keep these rules in mind: You’re welcome to bring food and drinks, but glass containers are not allowed under any circumstances. Everyone will pass through a security checkpoint, and bags and coolers will be screened at the entrance.
Prefer to grab something at the track? You’re in luck–Richmond Raceway has a great selection of food and beverage options across the venue. Permanent concession stands and mobile food stations are located near all major grandstands, while the Fan Zone is filled with food trucks and quick-service spots. You’ll find everything from pulled pork sandwiches and bacon cheeseburgers to smoothies, shaved ice, and other race-day classics.
Whether you pack your own or sample what’s on offer at the track, you’ll have no shortage of ways to stay fueled up between the action.
Before you head out, save everything important to your phone–like your tickets, maps, weekend schedule, and driver info. Cell service can be unreliable at the track on busy race days, and you might not always have internet access when you need it.
If you’re meeting up with friends, it’s smart to agree on a time and location in advance, just like the good old days before smartphones.
Racing is loud, and the closer you are to the action, the more intense the noise gets. While it’s usually manageable from the stands, earplugs are a good idea for everyone, and essential for children. Proper hearing protection will help make sure everyone enjoys the event safely and comfortably.
Late June in Richmond can get hot, with strong sun and high humidity, especially during the afternoon hours. If you’re spending time outside, be sure to wear sunscreen, bring a hat, and consider wearing sunglasses to stay protected.
Weather can vary, so keep an eye on the forecast in the days leading up to the event. One app we recommend is Windy, which gives real-time weather updates and detailed local forecasts to help you plan ahead.
